The Big Bad Wolf - Original Concept

I created this design of the Big Bad Wolf as a compliment to a Little Red Riding Hood costume my sister was making. My idea was to create a Disney style villainess, with glamour, and drama trying to cover up the true beast underneath.

Construction Details:

The Wolf Cape: I used a black shaggy faux fur to create a bolero style shrug. It is lined with red satin and black lace for a pop of color. I mounted a re-purposed latex wolf mask on the shoulder. I purchased a mass-produced latex wolf mask and filled it with urethane foam, I cut off the wolf's hair and lower jaw to change the shape, and gave it new coat of paint, complete with blinding silver eyes.

The Corset: I started with a plain costume corset, and painted it over with black latex paint. I carved out rib shapes from upholstery foam and soaked them in latex and attached them to the corset. I also soaked some lace and bead appliques in latex and attached them too. Once everything was dry I coated the corset in a few more coats of latex to make sure all of the pieces were organically incorporated. I rubbed some silver paint over the raised details to make them pop.

The Skirt: The skirt was made with a basic mermaid style pattern. I used black stretch velvet for the lux feel it gives. I extended the train to add drama and trimmed the skirt in a black lace ruffle.

The Wig: I created the base cone shapes out of crumpled foil and then wrapped the foil shapes in felt. I sewed the felt to the base of the wig, and then slowly wrapped pieces of the wig hair spiraling up the cones to the tips. I criss-crossed the pieces in the back to hide the wefting.

The Gloves: I started with black spandex opera length gloves. I soaked cotton balls in latex and sculpted the shape of the finger tips onto each finger. I used the cotton to elongate the fingertips, as well as distort the shape of my hand to make it look more beast like. I coated the gloves a few times with liquid latex and then glued werewolf nails that I bought at party city to the new finger tips.

The Neck Corset: I wrapped my neck in masking tape and traced out the shape I wanted for the neck corset. I used the tape as my pattern. The base of the neck corset is made in black lace, and it has velvet lined plastic boning along the seams. I added a fancy silver clasp and a black and white cameo.

I always wanted to see the big bad one as a Disney type villainess. Only, the Three Pigs version, top hat, bib overalls and all would make for a dramatic female costume.
