Katy Perry from California Gurls

Something about the bright colors and Candyland theme of Katy's California Gurls video really drew me in. I love all of the outfits she wears in the video but this one just looked like too much fun to make and wear. It really was, and aside from the shoes it was comfortable to boot!

Construction Details:

Corset: The white bustier was purchased online, however all of the embellishments were done by me. The corset features felt candy appliquéd. The cupcake and ice cream cone were done with craft foam and various sparkley fabrics. Hand made model magic beads, as well as hand picked craft beads and buttons. I also sewed each seed bead "sprinkle" to the corset by hand. All of the hand sewing on the corset took around 12+ hours on and off. The candy's on the hips were made using Styrofoam and poly-fill.

Skirt/stockings: The skirt was made using a simple circle skirt pattern that I color blocked. I used 5 different color satins to match Katy's skirt. The stockings were purchased at American apparel and then cut to be thigh-highs.

Jewelry: My favorite part of this costume. I made most of the pieces out of model magic. The ring is purely model magic that was glued to a pink ring blank. The bracelet is a wooden bracelet base that has multicolored model magic gumdrops glued to it. I dipped each one in glitter to give it some bling! The necklace has hand made model magic candies that were wrapped in cellophane. Some of the beads on the necklace were made with model magic and others were hand picked craft beads.

Wig/Headband: The purple wig was cut and styled by me, the curls I put in it never turned out so that is something I intend to fix. The headband was made by wrapping purple hair wefts around a paper mache' heart. The heart was attached to a purple headband and rhinestones were glued on.
